Cosmetics
- Council Directive 76/768 of 27 July 1976 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to cosmetic products
- Amended by Directive 2003/15/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 February 2003 amending Council Directive 76/768/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to cosmetic products
- Up from 11 July 2013 will be replaced with Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 on cosmetic products
Enforcement
Animals in experiments
1st January 2013: Directive 2010/63 iis applicable
10 November 2013: Member States shall adopt and publish, the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with this Directive and communicate it to the Commission (Article 61).
Cosmetics
11 Septembre 2004: testing on animals is prohibited on finished cosmetic products.
11 March 2009 : testing on animals ingredients or combination of ingredients is prohibited. Is also prohibited marketing of these products with the exception of repeated-dose toxicity, reproductive toxicity and toxicokinetics.
11 March 2013: the marketing ban will apply for other products having specific health effects and alternative methods should have been validated and adopted in EU legislation up from this date.
