The World Wildlife Fund (WWF), TRAFFIC, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare launch ‘The Global Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online’. The goal is to reduce by wildlife trafficking online 80% by 2020! Giant tech companies such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft join in partnership to work together.
Belgium, 18.07.2017 – The international animal welfare organization FOUR PAWS is now part of the new animal welfare group BelPAAG (Belgian Pet Advertising Advisory Group) and will work jointly with the group to promote responsible pet advertising. Unscrupulous trading of puppies and other animals online is a growing concern across and outside Europe, due to the fact that no EU legal framework regarding online selling of pets exists, which makes this trend difficult to control.
‘The French association for the protection of farm animals “l’Œuvre d’assistance aux bêtes d’abattoir” (OABA) seized the Administrative Court of Appeal of Versailles, who tipped in favor of the association and questioned the slaughter without stunning in organic farming. The Court of Justice of the European Union will rule and answer the following question: "Should the applicable rules of European Union law be interpreted as authorizing or prohibiting the granting of the European organic label to meat derived from Animals, which have been slaughtered without prior stunning?’ (source: La France Agricole 10.07.201)

MEP Stefan Eck meets with Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos to fight for a more dignified treatment of stray dogs in the country.
According to Prime Minister Ciolos, the Romanian Law 258/2013 on stray dogs is comparable to the laws applied in some other countries in Europe. But he did acknowledge Romania has a problem of law transposition together with lower animal protection standards especially at local level. As a first step, he committed to ask service providers to control the public shelters and check their observance of existing laws and regulations.
