In New Zealand, a new reform on animal welfare rules has passed. Animal testing is now better framed, and the new law set up new rules for breeding and killing of animals used for experiments. Among others, the new requirements planned the mandatory consultancy of an ethics committee.
According to a recent survey, New Zealander farmers feel the legal system prevents them from ensuring livestock are not abused or neglected.
On 8th May 2013, the Minister for Primary Industries from new Zealand has introduced a Bill to Parliament to update and strengthen animal welfare in New Zealand.
