Petition No 2032/2013 by by Nuria Menendez de Llano Rodriguez (Spanish), on the violation of EU legislation on the protection of wolves in the region of Asturias, Spain
Summary of petition:
The petitioner complains that, in the region of Asturias, public bodies are violating EU legislation on the protection of wolves, in particular: a) the administrative decisions authorising the killing of specimens of the Iberian wolf are not published, b) the authorities are failing to draw up a biennial report on derogations that have been permitted, intended for submission to the Commission, c) they are not complying with the obligation to allow species to live in their natural environment, i.e. in free zones, exclusion zones or areas not subject to management, d) they are not complying with the obligation to control the population, which is the only successful way to prevent damage to Iberian wolf, e) the obligation to draw up environmental planning tools that provide for the conservation of the species is being ignored. The petitioner calls for an investigation into these violations by the Spanish State in Asturias, in particular in the National Park Picos de Europa.
