Sow Stalls: the infringement procedures against France, Belgium, Greece and Cyprus continued /2 new procedures opened against Slovenia and Finland

Today, EU Commission has decided to pursue the infringement procedures opened last year regarding sow stalls against Belgium, Cyprus, Greece and France by sending a reasonned opinion to them.
Moreover, the EU Commission has decided to start new infringement procedures against Slovenia and Finland by sending a letter of formal notice to them.

Cyprus banned the use of all animals in circuses

Beginning of June 2013, the Cypriot Parliament has voted an amendment to the Cypriot Animal Welfare Law in favour of a total ban on the use of animals in circuses. Cyprus will be the 6th Country of Europe to have partially or definitively limited the use of wild animals in circuses.  Switzerland is also about to restrict the use of wild animals in circuses.

Sow Stalls : Start of Infringement Procedures against 9 Member States

 

Brussels, 21 I 2013

 

On February 21 2013, during the European Parliament's Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, Commissioner Tonio Borg (DG SANCO) announced that EU Commission has started infringement procedures against 9 non-compliant States with the sow stall ban set up by Council Directive 2008/120/EC of 18 December 2008 laying down minimum standards for the protection of pigs
