Mr Mimica has already been apointed  by Croatia in April and his candidacy has been validated by President Barroso. To finalize his nomination, the EU Parliament has to be consulted.

Up to know, EU Commissionner Tonio Borg was responsible for Consumers' protection and Health in DG SANCO. Hence, DG SANCO will be divided in two DGs: one for health directed by EU Commissioner Borg, and one for consumers' protection directed by the new Croatian EU Commissioner Mimica.
